About the Artist/Site
As a young child in school, Giacomo Rebecchi was fascinated by his teacher’s description of the perpetuum mobile and always wanted to try to create one himself. Finally, after retiring from his job as a train driver, in 1982 he began transforming the garden around his house into a fascinating world of mobiles and whirligigs mounted on top of poles.
To fabricate these rotating devices he used all kinds of recycled materials, including aluminium plates and wheels and other parts of discarded bicycles. Altogether the garden has some fifty “fans,” all of them brightly painted. Some of them deal with specific subjects, like animals or means of transport, and most of them have been dedicated to members of his family or to the memory of important events. His first fan was to celebrate the birth of his first grandchild.
In addition to the fans around his home, Rebecchi has also installed works at other sites, including at the home of family members in Brasil and at other locations in Cremona.
