More Information:

The Silesian Museum is delighted to invite you to take part to the international conference “Collecting Outsider Art” in Katowice, at June 11-12, 2016.

The first day will include lectures by collectors and other experts. The second day will include the European Outsider Art Association’s (EOA) General Assembly and workshops by Interest Groups on their specific themes. The detailed program will be sent soon to you.

The purpose is to discuss important questions in the field of Outsider Art as well as to exchange ideas and build networks between professionals working in the field, such as museums, galleries, collections, educational centers, studios and art projects. Especially questions dealing with collecting contemporary outsider art, sharing it to audience and saving it to future will be in the focus of discussions.

The conference and the meetings are coordinated by the Silesian Museum and the European Outsider Art Association. The venue will be the new, impressive museum building of the Silesian Museum. We have a pleasure to introduce there our own, famous collection of non-professional art.

The Silesian Museum kindly recommends you to take part also to the pre-conference program.

On Wednesday June 8th when arriving to Cracow we recommend you to visit Ethnographic Museum of Cracow, as well as Gallerie d’Naif Art, where you can see examples of Leszek Macak’s fascinating collection on Polish naïve art, outsider art and contemporary folk art.

On Thursday June 9th there is a Village Tour, for visiting two important villages, Zalipie and Paszyn, great examples of Polish folk art and cultural heritage. Mrs Sonia Wilk will be your personal guide. The journey will be self-financed by the participants. The number of seats on this tour is limited, so advanced registration will be asked soon.

On Friday June 10th there is a culture heritage tour in Katowice surroundings. The Silesian Museum will offer the tour including visits to Nikiszowiec, historic district of Katowice, to city museum and to historic mine Guido in Zabrze.
