About the Artist/Site
Renowned faux bois artist Dionicio Rodriguez was commissioned to create six sculptures for the Cedar Hill Cemetery from 1936 to 1938. The work includes two bridges, a bench shaped like a fallen tree, a hollow tree trunk shelter, a table, and the Annie Laurie Wishing Chair. According to William Douglas' ballad, the wishing chair is blessed by fairies, and good luck will come to couples who sit in the chair together and recite, "Dressed in our best and all alone, we sit within the wishing chair, which bodes success for everyone, exchanging fond caresses there."
