UtopixJo Pillet (b. 1947)
About the Artist/Site
Utopix is, first and foremost, the lovely story of Jo and Dominique Pillet, and it is located in an enchanting area of the country, in the Causse de Sauveterre region. Jo is a painter and sculptor of Savoyard origin, and he conceives of construction in cement blocks that have been covered in stones to hide their pedestrian origins, of sculptural residences, and, in general, in the genre of living architecture, all done in curves and rounded forms like mortarless bories or igloos. Before the success of his building, he decided, in 1993, to add a game park (courses of marbles, mini-golf, labyrinths, giant flippers…) along with humorous sculptures of small animals: crocodile, ladybugs, and an enormous eight-ton dinosaur, in order to amuse children (the Pillets have four of their own). Thus Utopix, the realization of a dream from the 1970s, has become, across the years, a mini amusement park and museum for those adept at alternative tourism.
Within the house Jo Pillet’s sculptures and paintings may also be viewed.
