About the Artist/Site
Pierre Shasmoukine is a painter and sculptor but also a poet and a writer. One day, he decided to leave Paris in order to move to the woods and construct a place for artists to meet and to celebrate contemporary creation. This was the beginning of Gorodka, near Sarlat, an atypical spot and unique in France, entirely dedicated to art. On almost two hectares (five acres), today the site has three nature walks through the heart of the forest, along with eight exhibition galleries that he calls “Za,” and more than 500 works of art. This strange universe is both a place of exhibition and one of creation, and Gordoka is both the story of a life and the story of a man. More than 250 singular creators have passed through Gorodka over the course of the years.
Among the important works are the dragonfly helicopter and its light works; Gorodka also includes both the smallest and largest Za galleries in the world. Classes in stone sculpture are offered.
It is possible to visit this creative space day or night throughout the year.
