La Casa dei Balocchi e dei Mulini [The House of Toys and Windmills]Pietro Camisasca

Camisasca, a retired workman, began to create a fantasy space around his home beginning in 1970. It is built on several levels, and using all recycled and surplus materials. The structure is adorned with an agglomeration of toys, found objects, windmills, plants, madonnas and gnomes grouped in small temples, mirrors, and his own painted wood sculptures, among them a green hat typically worn by Italian Alpine military forces. Most of the works are brightly painted, and pieces are piled on or near each other so that the impression is quite dense and colorful.

On the interior, where there are rooms for storage as well as areas for working and relaxation – is a growing tree, at the top of which a windmill has been positioned. During the Christmas season he adds a nativity scene that faces the street.

In the last few years, Camisasca has been increasingly interested in maintaining, conserving, and restoring the works he has already created, and to teaching a bit of his skills to his beloved nephew.

The site is built around the courtyard adjacent to the family’s home, and those parts facing the Via Rossini are easily viewable by passersby. It is more difficult, however, to gain access to the interior.
