Attilio Penzo
About the Artist/Site
Penzo, born in Chioggia, worked at a local hospital as a nurse, devoting his spare time to painting and photography. Between 2002 and 2011 he lived in Adria at the Villa Papadopoli, made available to him by the Altoès, owners of the nearby racetrack. Here he filled fourteen rooms with newspapers, books, toys, bills, matches, televisions, masks, nets, and boxes. His collages and assemblages, stacked and layered over and over again, referred to memories and events of both private and shared histories.
In 2011 the installation at the Villa Papadopoli was demolished by the owners, ostensibly for reasons of security. The artist then moved back to Chioggia, and he continues to collect, purchasing objects to adorn his current apartment in Chioggia with new installations and assemblages.
