Calexico ColossalAl Butler (1908-1977)
About the Artist/Site
Al Butler was a stonemason who built mansions for the wealthy in Hollywood. During his retirement he moved to Calexio and started building his own six bedroom mansion covered with scrap metal and car bodies. Concrete life preservers decorate the surrounding landscape to honor Butler's brother who was saved by a lifesaver when his ship sunk in WWII.
