About the Artist/Site
Giuseppe Toselli, known as Bepi Suà or Bepi of the candies, worked as a cinema operator in Burano until the end of the 1950s. He later obtained a license to sell candy on the street, and with a film camera he opened a kind of open-air cinema in front of his house. The house soon became a real laboratory: it had televisions, VCRs, and a collection of videos, but also images and collages on the walls. Indeed, it was the decoration of the exterior of the house that brought the greatest visibility: in the 1960s Toselli began to decorate the façade with geometric patterns, using the vibrant colors of Burano. He painted and repainted the house without stopping, constantly changing the look of his home.
After Toselli’s death, his sister Albertina took care of the house. It was later sold to Mara Bon, who restored the building and turned it into a B & B, but although it is easily accessible from the street, nothing remains of what was inside.
