About the Artist/Site

Within the woods of Klamath California, visitors to the “Trees of Mystery” are treated to 50 giant carved sculptures depicting the legend of Paul Bunyan and other icons of the pacific northwest. Artist Kenyon R. Kaiser created the massive carvings out of timber and panels taken from the  majestic redwoods native to the California coast, crafting sculptures ranging up to 20 feet tall. Using a chainsaw, Kaiser formed the sculptures over a period of 10 months. Eventually, all of the sculptures were placed along the “Trail of Tall Tales,” uniting the natural monumental redwoods with the intricately carved bas-reliefs and statues.

The Trees of Mystery property has been in operation for more than 75 years, yet throughout expansion and updates, Kaiser’s carvings have remained constant in the park. The trails are open everyday except Christmas, starting at 9 am.
