About the Artist/Site
Robert Coudray is a stone carver, home builder, crepe-maker, carnival worker, peasant, beekeeper, cider maker and “poète ferrailleur [a poet who deals in scrap metals].” For twenty-five years, with patience and passion, he has built a fabulous and unique world out of nothing, in the Morbihan region of Bretagne in northwestern France. Full of humor and sensitivity, his inventions also reveal significant technical prowess. Upon this site, which is a mixture of art, poetry, film, mechanical movement, ecology, eco-construction, architecture, and nature, a visit is simply magical.
There are some eighty sculptures on site – many painted bright colors and including kinetic components – along with a café-bookshop, and a site where films about or by Coudray can be viewed. The environment is open to the public and may be viewed between April and November.
