Serafino Arienti
About the Artist/Site
A retired repairman of industrial machinery, around fifteen years ago Serafino Arienti began fabricating sculptures out of stainless steel. He obtains the raw material from a friend; using patterns that he draws and then cuts out of cardboard, he arranges the patterns onto the steel plates and then cuts out his forms, one by one. Each is welded and detailed separately – hundreds of feathers for birds, and scales for fish, all embossed, meticulously put together, and then painted with enamel.
He started by decorating the gate with two-dimensional forms and then, little by little, he began filling up his back yard with birds and animals of all kinds. There are roosters two meters (six feet) high; flocks of crows that nest on gutters, eagles turning with the wind, storks, owls, penguins, fish, and much more.
The works are all in the garden of Arienti’s house, and are visible from the street. If the artist is at home, he welcomes passersby and is happy to speak about his work.
